Toomey takes first at district

Leander swimmers competed at district competition on Jan. 30-31, 2009 at the University of Texas Aquatic Center.  The swimmers fought hard with hopes of reaching regionals. One bright star of the swim program is Claire Toomey, junior, who took a first place in diving and advances to regionals in Conroe on Feb. 13 and 14.

Toomey has been diving for four years and is currently nationally ranked 22nd. The amount of time she spend practicing is intense. Practice includes two to three hours daily and as many as five to six times a week.  As a young child, Toomey dreamed as most little girls of being a gymnast. She attributes much of her success in diving to those early gymnastic classes.
