Students win big at academic tournament

The UIL academic team kicked off its competitive season on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Pflugerville High School. The invitational tournament hosted 33 schools from the Central Texas area in preparation for the academic district tournament to be held in April, 2010.
Journalism team members Ashley Bagwell, senior, Emma Berkel, sophomore and Matthew Broussard, sophomore all brought home trophies for placing in their events.
Bagwell took a first place in feature writing while Berkel placed sixth in the same event. Broussard claimed a third place in editorial writing.
Drama team members Hailey Suggs, Harley Roberts, and Kat Schober, juniors, also place in their events. Roberts took first in poetry, Hailey Suggs, fourth in poetry and Schober, placed second in prose.
Two more invitational meets are scheduled for second semester…one hosted by Westwood and one at Round Rock High School.
