Robbins starts new job with enthusiasm

By Erin Andary

Previously a science teacher at Georgetown High School, then a football and baseball coach at Westwood High School for three years, Tom Robbins, the new freshman AP, says he likes it here. “Leander has awesome mixture of people from all different kinds of backgrounds and diversity,” he said.

Robbins reminisces about when he was a freshman at Georgetown High School, a rule follower (no connection with his current role as an assistant principal), shy, and an active football and baseball player. Though he loves sports, both playing and coaching, Robbins is more interested in helping make Leander better in any and every way.

He also wants to improve himself, and eventually become a principal. With his personal motto “hard work produces results”, he expects to achieve his goals. As a husband and father, he loves being outdoors, hunting, playing on his church’s softball league, and of course being with his wife and two year old daughter, Reagan, “she is 2 going on 18, curious, outgoing, and doesn’t like taking no for an answer,” Robbins added.

Living in the Austin area, Longhorn pride runs through just about everybody’s veins. Robbins is no exception. “I’m a huge college football fan,” he said. “My father-in-law has season tickets to the UT football games.” Burnt orange and white aren’t the only things about Austin that Robbins loves, “The whole ‘Austin’ feeling, the live music concerts, bike and hike trails, location. And, of course, the lake” are some of his favorite things about Austin.

Other of his favorite things include, Duke’s BBQ restaurant in Georgetown “I always get the spicy sausage, beans, and cheesy potatoes!” he adds. Cabela’s, Academy, and any other sports and outdoors shops is where he could be found doing his shopping. If he were any fictional character, you could just imagine him with a cowboy hat, boots, red bandana and maybe even some of those tan chap pants as “John Wayne in any western movie”. Though he has been three times already, Hawaii is the place he would go if he could go anywhere in the world. “It’s just the most beautiful place…there’s never any kids!”

So what’s his biggest secret? Well, he really just wants to be Justin Bieber for Halloween.
