On Friday night, Sept. 16, 2011, the Lady Lions volleyball team rained heavily on McNeil’s parade. The Ladies took the court with full support from their fans, following a loss to Round Rock in the district opener. Ashley Atkinson, coach, is hopeful that this win will set the stage for things to follow in district play.

In a 3-0 shutout, several players contributed to the win. The Lions went in with the mindset to win and came out dominating the game. Jessica Corey, seniro, socred the game’s first point and the rest was history.

Jessica (OJ) Olson, Shelby Prather and Haley Giamfortone, seniors, are among the players that had amazing set throughout the game. OJ Olson also gets credit for serving up three consecutive aces in the first game.

The Lady Lion return to their home court on Homecoming, Sept. 23 against Georgetown.

Lady Lion’s volleyball continued to carry their dream of playoffs with them, with the win against Round Rock on Friday, October 8th. “It was a big win, that we had to get due to being stuck in a three way tie with Round Rock and Pflugerville,” Ashley Atkinson, coach, said.

The volleyball team played well, losing the first game, but held it together and won the next three games at home, winning the series. “The girls did it very well, and played well without their starting middle, Jessica Corey,” Atkinson, said.

Jessica who was out due to a back injury she received at practice the night before, also missed the following game against McNeil when the team made an awesome comeback to win the final three games of the series, despite being down by two. Jessica made a quick and needed recovery and was able to play the next game.

Tuesday night, October 19th, the girls had an unfortunate loss against Georgetown and must win against Pflugerville to continue the road to playoffs. “Unfortunately, it’ll be the last game that decides playoff spots for us. The fans can help by coming out and cheering on their fellow students and friends,” Atkinson, said.

The Pflugerville game is a home game and will start Friday at 6:30pm in the competition gym. Come out and show support for the Lady Lions volleyball team. Keep on racin’ ladies!

The Lady Lion volleyball team is on the road tonight to play McNeil. A win tonight clinches a playoff for the Ladies as they head into the season closer at home against Cedar Park on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

They posted a strong showing against Round Rock, finishing them off in three games. This year the Lady Lions are led by a strong senior squad: Ashlee Hilbun, Rachael Scott, Leanne Showman, Kayley Corse, Brianna Peters, Bre Saucier, Jennifer Snow, Natalie Poche and Brittany Wheeler.

The 2009 volleyball team has had a great year, jumping out front early on with their eyes on the playoffs. This team is known for its determination and a never-quit attitude. We look forward to the Cedar Park match on our home turf.
